Caragana  frutex globosa, Globe Caragana

A globe shaped shrub growing to 1 meter x 1 meter. It is very heat and drought tolerant. Good specimen plant that maintains its dark green color throughout the summer.

Caragana pygmaea, Pygmy Caragana

Fine textured, light green foliage is slightly prickly. Commonly used for hedges or mass plantings. A very hardy plant growing to about 1 meter in height and 1.25 meters wide. It has small yellow flowers in late May.

This dogwood has golden yellow leaves throughout the summer with typical dogwood red bark. Hardy shrub grows to 2 meters wide and high. Very good contrast shrub. White flowers in the early summer.

Leaves are variegated with yellow leaf margins. Grows best in full sun, shorted and more spreading that silverleaf dogwood, grows to 1.5 meter high by 1.5 meters wide. Red colored bark.

Cornus sericea cardinal, Cardinal Dogwood

An introduction from the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Color of bark turns from yellowish green in summer to bright red in the fall season. Typical dogwood flowers. Reddish purple fall color.

Cotoneaster lucidus,  Peking Cotoneaster (formerly called acutifolia)

A very dense growing shrub with small shiny green leaves. Used almost exclusively for hedging. Widely used. Small black berries are eaten by birds.

Good yellow, orange, or red fall color.

 Crataegus crus-galli, Cockspur Hawthorn

Very thorny, large growing shrub, grows to about 5 meters. White flowers appear in May which turns into clusters of bright red fruit in the fall. Extremely hardy. Good yellow and orange fall color. If you need a barrier that people or animals won’t go through, this will definitely do the job!

Elaeagnus commutate, Wolfwillow or Silverberry

Large growing shrub, up to 2 meters in height, suckers aggressively. Shrub has reddish brown stems with silver leaves and berries. Tiny, yellow fragrant flowers appear early in the spring. Native in poorer soils all over western Canada. Good reclamation plant, especially where erosion is a problem.

Lonicera tatarica ‘Arnold Red’,  Arnold Red Honeysuckle

Produces the darkest of red flowers of all honeysuckles. Plant is resistant to honeysuckle aphid attacks which causes the witches broom effect on most tatarian honeysuckle. Grows to 3 meters, very hardy. Bright red berries which attract birds.

Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Center Glow’, Center Glow Ninebark (COPF royalty is 55 cents)

Very similar in size and appearance to Diabolo ninebark except the red (purple) color is far brighter and new growth emerges a glowing yellow-green.

This plant produces a bold array of colours all season long.

It is a very impressive spirea.

Viburnum trilobum, American Cranberry    

A very handsome, hardy shrub with dark green lobed leaves. Fall colors are excellent reds and yellows. White clusters of flowers in spring which produce large clusters of red and florescent orange berries in the fall. Good habitat or accent plant. Native to western Canada. One of the very nicest large growing shrubs. Not planted often enough. Grows to 4 meters.

A Bailey selection of Compact American cranberry. A compact growing shrub with green foliage in summer turning bright red in fall. Showy white flower clusters in spring, followed by bright red fruit. Grows to 1 meter with a spread of 1 meter. A very nice looking compact plant.

SK Prairie Sun apple - (COPF royalty is 40 cents)

An introduction from the University of Saskatchewan. Their description is as follows. “SK Prairie Sun apple is a multi-purpose apple cultivar that ripens in late August or the first week of September. The skin color is yellowish cream with a pink blush. The flesh is fine textured, crisp, juicy and moderately sweet. The core is small and closed. The fruit is good for fresh eating and makes excellent processed products. The fruit will size up to three inches  under good cultural conditions and after fruit thinning.” Very hardy here at Nipawin.

Prairie Sensation apple (COPF royalty is 40 cents)

A new release from the University of Saskatchewan. The variety has good hardiness, being hardy at Nipawin. Large fruit grows up to 8.5cm. (3 ½ inches), if fruit is thinned out. Apple is green with a 50% overlay of red and is firm, juicy & crisp. Several blind taste evaluation tests at the U of S have resulted in people stating that they like it as much as Gala apple. That isn’t to say that it tastes like Gala but people liked it just as well. These taste tests were done using Prairie Sensation apples that had been stored into November.

Battleford apple

A good eating apple and very good cooking apple with fair storage. It is a very hardy apple with reliable fruiting production. Fruit is greenish yellow with red markings. Fruit is medium sized and has juicy white flesh.

Kerr crabapple

A fair eating crabapple and very good for cooking and storage. A cross between Dolgo and Haroldson. Dark purple-red fruit with crisp white flesh.

Credit Terms:  Net payment is due 30 days from the date of invoice to those with established credit. Others must pay a 25% deposit when ordering and must be paid in full 30 days prior to shipping. Interest is charged at 2% a month (24% per annum) on all overdue accounts. Prices are based on present market conditions and are subject to change without notice.

 

Shipping: Boxing and baling will be charged for at cost. Plants are packed carefully with adequate packing material and moisture to withstand shipment. Open all shipments and inspect immediately the condition of the plants. Keep all roots moist all the time until the plant is planted, this is very important. Keep material away from sun and wind and in a cool and moist environment. Please inform us at the time of ordering, your preference for method of shipping. All goods travel at buyer’s risk and expense. Our responsibility ceases with delivery of stock to the transit company.

 

Claims: Claims must be made promptly on arrival of stock. Call us immediately if you have any concerns about the conditions of the plants received. A written report should be sent to us within 7 days. This can be mailed or faxed to us.

 

Guarantee: All stock is guaranteed to be true to name and we will give complete satisfaction to the extent of the original purchase price. We guarantee that the nursery stock will leave in good condition. We give no other warrantee, expressed or implied. As we have no control over the handling of the stock after it leaves the nursery, we cannot be responsible for its performance. If you have any doubt about how to handle bare root nursery stock phone us and we will inform you of the proper methods.

 

Grading: All nursery stock is graded according to CNLA standards. Nursery stock is graded in metric measurements.

 

Conditions of Sale: We accept all orders subject to crop conditions. We reserve the right to cancel a portion of the order, should injury befall our stock from hail, winds or other weather conditions, error in count, insect and disease injury, or other causes beyond our control.

 

 

C.O.P.F. - Canadian Ornamental Plant Foundation: Royalties from the sale of plants marked COPF are submitted to this foundation who in turn pay 90% of these royalties to the plant originator or breeder. All plants listed as “COPF” mean a royalty charge for these plants will be automatically charged on your invoice as a separate item.
